Here’s the rub: Bill Lynch is running for Congress. In this ad, he skewers opponent David Segal, along with the other two foes. In a just released “hah”, the actor who played fake Segal has come out in favor of Segal!

Though it may seem embarrassing for Lynch, he’s still got the better ad.

In this video, those men running for Mayor of Providence issue their closing statements from a recent debate. One of them uses his time to propose to his girlfriend Kara Russo, who’s running for Lieutenant Gov.

Rhode Island is one of 9 states (plus D.C.) to get a rose from the Department of Education as it moves on TO THE NEXT ROUND of Race to the Top! Making the 2nd cut means not only will they share a hot tub with Ohio and Sec. of Education Arne Duncan, but they win a $75 million grant!

Former Republican Senator turned Independent Gubernatorial candidate Lincoln Chafee released his new campaign spot today. Democratic candidate Frank Caprio’s to come.

The video doesn’t say much, but reveals Chafee has joined Newt Gingrich and Rand Paul in adopting an awkward monosyllabic version of his real first name.

I knew something was up with that reptile dealer.

Seventeen Rhode Islanders, including a co-owner of a popular reptile store and a city maintenance manager, face charges of possession of child pornography after state, federal and local law-enforcement agencies executed search warrants across the state early Wednesday.”

See the article in The Providence Journal.

Welcome to Kurrent Events, the Indy Blog’s periodical debrief on local matters of importance.

An oddball local businessman and fantastically bad debater Anthony Gemma is one of four Democrats running to fill Patrick Kennedy’s shoes in Congress.

I mention Anthony Gemma because he’s recently attacked frontrunner, Providence Mayor David Cicilline ‘83, for using Brown’s logo in a fundraising mailing last week. Cicciline’s letter read: “Can you believe there’s only one Brown alum in the entire U.S. Congress?” Underneath was a Brown logo. Brown does not approve of the use and is not permitted to contribute to or endorse a political campaign.

But Gemma’s got Brown’s back: “The headline of Cicilline’s mailing should have read, ‘Can you believe that a Brown alum would stoop so low as to besmirch the honor and prestige of our Ivy League university?’”

“The force field of our love overrode any issues that would arise from my belief systems about, you know, “It should be going different than it is. He should be behaving differently than he is.”

“I just knew he was in love with me, and from the way he acted that day, and that’s not something that I would think easily. But just the way he looked at me and touched me, and the things he said, it just it was so obvious to me. And it was shocking.”
